| Step 6: Color draft
This step is not really necessary, but the next thing I did was to arrange the butterfly on the text by moving it around as an object in Freehand. When I was happy with the placement, I had the program fill in the text outlines with black, and I printed out a black & white draft of the combined quote and drawing. I then did a rough of the colors for the butterfly, using watercolor markers and colored pencils. Why not do this step on the computer? Well, I could have, but since all I wanted was a rough sketch, I felt it was quicker to do it by hand. Here's what the color draft looked like: |
